What is a Giclee print?

Giclee, (pronounced 'zhee-clay), is a French word, meaning 'to spray' that describes a revolutionary process used to produce fine art prints.

This medium was developed in 1989 as a plateless method of fine art printing and is the result of a perfect blend of art and technology.

The Giclee process begins after a high resolution image is produced from the artists work, or is scanned directly by a high-end drum scanner. It is at this point of color correction, that the Giclee process begins to differ from preparing an image for trade lithography. Special software programs are used to manipulate the attributes of the digitized image to acheive the artists own desired requirements, whether it is for color, definition, or correction.

After numerous consultations with the artist, that the color, sizing, definition, contrast and composition meet with approval, and acid free archival canvas is selected, the print process begins. The approved image is then output to a sophisticated wide format printer, while the print technician verifies the color management elements.

At this stage, the the full magic of Giclee printmaking is acheived,

The printer sprays microscopic droplets of ink onto the archival canvas, at a rate of a million drops per second.

After completion, the canvas is sprayed with a waterproof, ultra-violet coating, to protect the image from moisture and fading.

The finished piece, is then the most accurately reproduced graphic in the art world today,

Giclee Prices

Giclees are produced on canvas using the finest Archival inks.

Each canvas is signed and numbered by the artist in a limited edition series. It is then sprayed with a permanent, non-yellowing, water-resistent, protective acrylic coat.

The canvas is delivered either stretched on stretcher bars, or unstretched, according to your preference. Kindly state which you prefer when you place your order.

Images are oriented landscape or portrait but the dimensions remain the same in the sizes shown below.

Larger sizes are available by special order, (e.g. 30" x 40" for $975.00). Please use the contact page for your request.

Shipping and handling within the USA is included in the price. Orders will be shipped by UPS or FedEx ground delivery within 14 days of your order.
